Power outages, road clsoures, clean up

Please be advised that the Meridian Community Centre is currently without power and the building is closed until power is restored. Staff are onsite and updates will be provided as they become available.

Pelham Town Square, under the arches is closed due to damage a section of the arches sustained from the high winds. This area of Pelham Town Square will be closed until the damage can be further assessed and Town staff can safely work on a repair.

Public works staff are out clearing debris from roads.

The strong winds are forecast to continue into the evening. Environment Canada has issued the following alert:

Major wind storm across the regions.

Very strong southwest winds with frequent gusts of 100 to 110 km/h are expected in the wake of a sharp arctic cold front blasting across the region.

Wind gusts of 120 km/h are possible in areas along the shores of Lake Huron and Lake Erie, as well as over higher elevations like the Dundalk Highlands.

The damaging winds will continue into this evening, then will gradually start to diminish near midnight, except near Lakes Erie and Huron where they may persist most of the night.

Power outages are possible.
