Town of Pelham receives $125,000 Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program grant

Pelham, ON – The Town of Pelham has received $125,000 in funding from the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ (FCM) Climate change staff grants initiative, part of the Municipalities for Climate Innovation Program (MCIP).

The Town will use this funding to support a Climate Change Coordinator position, responsible for researching and recommending institutional and operational changes and providing oversight on the climate mitigation/adaption plan.

Pelham is one of 58 communities across Canada benefitting from this initiative.

“When we talk about a creating a sustainable community, climate adaptation is one of many critical components in achieving that goal,” said Mayor Marvin Junkin. “We appreciate this funding and what it allows us to do as a community, now and in the future.”

The MCIP helps municipalities and partner organizations by providing funding, training, and information sharing. It is designed to encourage Canadian municipalities to better prepare for and adapt to the new realities of climate change as well as reduce greenhouse gas emissions
