A statement from Mayor Marvin Junkin on the passing of Gerry Berkhout:

I, along with members of Council and town staff, am saddened to hear of the passing of Gerry Berkhout.

Mr. Berkhout was a community-driven individual, focused on enhancing our Town for everyone to enjoy. A former Town Councillor (1998-2003), Fonthill Lions member, citizen of the year, and member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Mr. Berkhout served his community with passion and dedication. He will be missed by many.

Recognized last November with a trail naming in his honour, I am grateful that Mr. Berkhout attended the ceremony with family and friends, solidifying and preserving his impact on our community.

I extend my deepest condolences to the Berkhout family and all those who knew Gerry.

Our flags will fly at half-staff on Monday, January 7, 2019, in remembrance of Gerry Berkhout.
