Temporary road closure of Rice Road

road closure text over a photo of a country road

Please be advised that the top asphalt is to be placed by echelon paving (full width, curb to curb in one pass) and a temporary road closure will be in effect on a block by block basis from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., on Thursday, Sept. 19, and Friday, Sept. 20, 2019, weather permitting.

The road closure is necessary to pave the road surface in a safe and efficient manner. Barring any unforeseen circumstances, the top course paving is expected to be completed in two days. The section of Regional Rd. 54 (Rice Rd.) that will be paved is between Regional Rd. 20 and Merritt Rd., detoured as follows:

  • Regional Rd. 20 (Highway 20) / Regional Rd. 50 (Niagara St. / Merrittville Hwy.) / Regional Rd. 41 (Woodlawn Rd.)

Through traffic on Regional Rd. 54 (Rice Rd.) will be blocked between Regional Rd. 20 and Merritt Rd. during the paving operation. Residents within the section being paved will be able to access their properties from either in front of, or behind, the paving train. There will be times when driveway access will be completely blocked for approximately one hour or less while the paving train passes your driveway and the asphalt is adequately compacted for vehicle use.

Please ensure you have moved your vehicle from your driveway on the appropriate day, prior to the paving operation and schedule your daily activities with this restriction in mind. Be assured that every effort will be made to restore access as soon as possible.

Emergency services will be notified of the closure.
