Summerfest a top-100 event for fifth year in a row

FEO summerfest award

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 4, 2019

Pelham, ON – For the fifth time in as many years, Pelham’s marquee summer showcase, Summerfest, is a Festival & Events Ontario (FEO) top-100 festival and event.

Announced on February 28, 2019, during the annual FEO conference, Summerfest is one of just five festivals and events in Niagara to receive the distinction.

“The community involvement in a festival like Summerfest is really what makes it work, what makes it special,” said Vickie vanRavenswaay, director of recreation, culture, and wellness for the Town of Pelham. “Whether it’s the Summerfest Committee, staff, volunteers, or the people who show up and enjoy the event, Summerfest is all about community and community spirit and we’re proud and humbled to receive this award for the fifth consecutive year.”

Despite a rainout on the final day of last year’s event, Summerfest 2018 welcomed nearly 40,000 people, hosted 62 vendors and 28 bands, involved the community’s volunteer base for 1,300-plus volunteer hours, and initiated an economic impact of over $3 million.

Beginning as a single-day event in 2011, the Pelham community has embraced and enhanced Summerfest year over year.

“It’s quite amazing to see how Summerfest has grown into the award-winning event that it is,” said Mayor Marvin Junkin. “The community comes together every summer to enjoy what this town has to offer – which, as Pelham residents know, is quite a bit.”

Held every third weekend in July, Summerfest 2019 will kick off on Thursday, July 18, with the Thursday Night Experience, followed by Friday’s ever-popular country night, Saturday’s street festival, and Sunday’s car show. Events on all four days are free.
