Pelham, ON – For the second year in a row the Town of Pelham, in coordination with its seniors advisory committee, is hosting a seniors information and active living fair.

Taking place Tuesday, October 1, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Meridian Community Centre in Pelham, the fair offers seniors and their families opportunities to learn about programs, services, groups, and much more.

Included at this year’s fair will be several program demonstrations, including Nordic walking, Zumba, and pickleball.  Blood pressure and assistive walking device clinics will also be available. Draws for prizes will also be taking place during the fair.

The Meridian Community Centre is a designated Seniors Active Living Centre, something that Julie Cook, the Town’s recreation and wellness programmer says is important when bringing seniors to the building for these types of events.

“We want to show our seniors and their families the investment we’ve made in ensuring we offer programming and services that meet their needs,” said Cook. “In addition the building itself, the programs we offer, including our new 55+ active living lounge, are geared towards the interests and abilities of our senior population and this is a great way to show all of these things off at the same time.”

New this year is keynote speaker William Thomas, author, scriptwriter and nationally syndicated humour columnist.  In addition to the 50 newspapers that carry his weekly column, Thomas is also the senior writer for Canada's Forever Young.

Information on the active living lounge, including membership details and offers, will be available at the fair.

The fair is made possible in part by the Older Adult Centres Association of Ontario, and is free; no registration is required. Lunch will be available, free of charge, from 11:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
