Pelham pitching in for a clean community
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 10, 2019
Pelham, ON – The Town of Pelham is again issuing the challenge to students, businesses, and the broader community to participate in this year’s Pitch In Week.
A nationally recognized event, Pitch In Week runs from April 22-29, encouraging residents to participate in a variety of ways, helping to keep their communities and common spaces green and clean.
“An event like this really highlights the community spirit that exists in Pelham,” said Jodi Hendriks, culture and community enhancement programmer. “We’ve had great success in the past with our community clean up days; it’s an event that allows all ages to make a positive impact in their community for today and well into the future.”
On Saturday, April 27, the Town of Pelham will organize a Community Pitch In Day, gathering at Centennial Park in Fenwick at 9 a.m. The Fenwick Lions are providing a complimentary barbeque for all volunteers and Tim Hortons is providing coffee and Timbits for all to kick start the morning.
Prior to April 27, residents are asked to do the following:
- Select your favourite park, roadway, trail, ravine or any other public space that needs a cleanup.
- Ask your friends, family, and neighbours to join your cleanup team.
- Plan your cleanup by determining the start time, day, supplies that will be needed, and if waste disposal is required.
- Lastly, register your cleanup – it’s important.
- When you register you can request special litter collection, subject to approval, and are eligible for free litter and recycling bags.
- Registration closes on Wednesday, April 17.
- Register at: www.pelham.ca/cleanup
Gloves, safety vests, bags, and other clean up items are provided for participants. Last year 535 participants filled 80 garbage bags, collecting 480kg of trash.
