press release text

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
October 3, 2019

Pelham, ON – The Pelham fire department is reminding residents to develop and practice their home fire escape plans during this year’s fire prevention week campaign.

From October 6-12 fire departments nationwide will be meeting, informing, and engaging with residents in efforts to increase awareness and importance of fire safety.

“More often than not, we’re reactive rather than proactive to fire safety,” said Pelham’s fire prevention officer Jason Longhurst. “There are so many simple, quick, and little things people and their families can do – such as planning and practicing a home space plan – to avoid disastrous outcomes; we’re hoping through initiatives such as Fire Prevention Week, people feel informed and prepared.”

Events are scheduled during fire prevention week for residents to meet with the fire department and receive information. The following are dates, times, and locations for this year’s events:

  • Saturday, Oct. 5 –  11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Charity BBQ outside Giant Tiger – meet firefighters, see the trucks, ask questions, and more.
  • Monday, Oct. 7 –   9 – 11 a.m.
Coffee with a Firefighter at the Fonthill McDonalds – enjoy a free coffee while talking with a firefighter about anything related to fire safety and the local fire department.
