FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Pelham, ON
– A familiar face is once again serving on Pelham Town Council. James Lane, filling the vacant Ward 1 seat, was officially sworn in at the Dec. 4 meeting of Town Council.

Now his third time sitting on Council, Lane says it is just a matter of getting back into the swing of things as a Councillor.

Given the proximity to the next municipal election and Lane’s extensive experience as a Pelham Councillor, the decision to appoint Lane was the best option; a by-election or application process would have taken weeks or months.

Town Clerk Nancy Bozzato administered the declaration of office, which Lane repeated aloud:

I, James Lane, having been appointed to the office of Councillor, Ward One in the municipality of the Town of Pelham do solemnly promise and declare that:

I will truly, faithfully and impartially exercise this office to the best of my knowledge and ability.

I have not received and will not receive any payment or reward, or promise thereof, for the exercise of this office in a biased, corrupt or in any other improper manner.

I will disclose any pecuniary interest, direct or indirect, in accordance with the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act.

I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second.

And I make this solemn promise and declaration conscientiously believing it to be true and knowing that it is of the same force and effect as if made under oath.

Lane said he’s excited to be a part of Council during a time of exciting projects such as the Pelham Community Centre.

Mayor Dave Augustyn is pleased to welcome back Lane and cites his experience and community-focused vision as a perfect fit to fill the vacant seat.

“As a Council, we depend on one another for fruitful discussion and debate,” said Augustyn. “Having Councillor Lane’s perspective back on Council will better inform our deliberations and ensure representation of Ward 1 residents.”
