press release

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
June 16, 2021

Pelham, ON – The Town of Pelham’s commitment to inclusivity and celebration of Pride Month continues on June 25, as members of Pride Niagara and Town of Pelham Council and staff will be on hand to unveil the installation of two pride benches.

The benches, located in Peace Park behind Town Hall and at the Meridian Community Centre, are positioned in prominent areas of Town with high visibility. The benches mark another step toward celebrating a diverse community.

“I was proud to raise the Pride flag on June 1, and I am proud to unveil these two new benches to celebrate Pride and the LGBTQ+ community,” said Mayor Marvin Junkin. “Council approved these two benches earlier this spring, and I am pleased to see them now being installed in spaces that are available to everyone in our community.”

On April 19, 2021, Pelham Town Council unanimously approved the installation of the two benches, strengthening the corporation’s commitment to building a strong, inclusive community. The additions to the Town’s public spaces confirm a level of dedication to creating spaces that are welcoming and inviting to all. The benches serve as a reminder to all who use these common spaces that Pelham is a welcoming community.

Following Public Health and provincial guidelines regarding outdoor gatherings, a small event will be held at noon on June 25 to unveil the benches and continue to celebrate Pride month.
