The Town of Pelham is undertaking a Class Environmental Assessment (Class EA) for a new Sewage Pumping Station and associated sewage forcemain and future gravity sewers intended to service the proposed Oak Haven Estates Subdivision and neighbouring lands currently not serviced with a municipal sewerage system.
The Oak Haven Estates Subdivision is proposed for a currently vacant parcel comprising 4.92 hectares (12.16 acres) in the Town of Pelham, Niagara Region. The parcel is located just south of Memorial Drive and just east of Maple Street, and has access to Maple Street. The proposed subdivision is draft approved for 28 single family detached homes, 8 street townhouses and a block of 36 townhouses, for a total of 72 dwelling units. The subdivision recently received an extension of the draft plan approval to June 28, 2022.
A sewage pumping station is being considered to service this development property due to constraints associated with conventional gravity sewer servicing. It is also being considered that a new pumping station could provide for future municipal sewage system servicing for properties along Memorial Drive and Maple Street that are currently serviced by on-site sewage disposal systems (ie. septic systems). Should this option be confirmed, it is intended that the Niagara Region will operate and maintain the sewage pumping station upon its completion.
Alternative approaches to achieving a solution for sanitary sewerage servicing for the new subdivision and other lands not currently serviced with municipal sewers will be considered, as will potential impacts of these alternatives.
The study will follow the Schedule ‘B’ Municipal Class EA process as set out by the Municipal Engineers Association document of October 2000 and amended in 2007, 2011 and 2015. Public consultation is critical to the success of the study. We welcome your comments and will provide opportunities for your input throughout the study. The project is planned to be completed in summer of 2022.
