Niagara Region looking for resident input on community safety and well-being

Niagara Region and Niagara Regional Police Services, in collaboration with community partners, is developing a plan to support community safety and well-being in Niagara. Engaging the community throughout the planning process is critical to developing Niagara’s Community Safety and Well-Being Plan, and starting today residents can share their input through an online survey. 

Under the Police Services Act, municipalities are required to develop and adopt community safety and well-being plans working in partnership with a multi-sectorial advisory committee. This approach recognizes that safety and well-being cannot be addressed in isolation by any one organization or sector. Too often, situations rooted in issues like mental health, addictions, a lack of safe and affordable housing, inadequate access to services or social isolation require an emergency response from the police or other crisis-driven services. In many cases, these issues could be addressed earlier and more effectively through greater collaboration among sectors including police, education, health and social services and community-based human services agencies. 

Niagara’s Community Safety and Well-Being Plan provides a way for partners to work together to develop local strategies that can begin to address root causes of complex social issues, and ensures that people in need of help receive the right response, at the right time, and by the right service provider. Membership of Niagara’s Community Safety and Well-Being Plan Advisory Committee includes representation from:

  • Entité2 (French Language Health Planning Entity) 
  • Family and Children’s Services Niagara

  • Niagara Health  
  • Niagara Region 
  • Niagara Regional Police Board 
  • Niagara Regional Police Service 
  • Township of West Lincoln

Your input in this survey will help shape the plan and focus on key issues to improve safety and well-being in Niagara. Respondents also have a chance to win a $100 prepaid Visa giftcard.
