Motorists, pedestrians encouraged to exercise caution and awareness during Steve Bauer Classic

SBC19 TMP V1

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 16, 2019

Pelham, ON – Motorists and pedestrians are asked to keep a keen eye on Saturday, May 18, 2019, as they navigate the areas of Effingham Street, Sixteen Road, Maple Street, Tice Road, and other roads that intersect the annual Steve Bauer Classic (SBC) cycling road race.

The annual event, now in its 35th year, is expecting more than 300 racers from across the province to compete in the prestigious event - road closures and one-way traffic can be expected throughout the day.

Effingham Street will be closed to the public from Sixteen Road to Highway 20 from 6 a.m. – 6 p.m., with Effingham residents receiving a vehicle credential to circulate to and from their homes in the direction of the race course.

All vehicles driving on roads identified as part of the race course must follow the direction of the course at all times; racers will be using the entire widths of the roads.

Race marshals and police officers will be positioned at intersections to assist both racers and motorists, providing safety and direction for all. Signage will be placed throughout the areas of the race course to notify motorists and pedestrians of the event and to exercise caution when entering the race course.

Residents in the race course area were notified by the organizers of the SBC of road closures, race routes, and other pertinent information. Roughly 500 letters were distributed to potentially affected residences.
