Meridian Credit Union donates one million dollars to Community Centre
The Town of Pelham is proud to announce that the beautiful new community centre is taking on the name of Meridian Community Centre, thanks to an agreement with Ontario’s largest credit union, headquartered in nearby St. Catharines.
Meridian Credit Union’s gift of $1 million dollars grants them the naming rights of the facility and helps the Town of Pelham reach 90% of their $3 million fundraising goal for the new centre.
Speaking at the official naming announcement, Wade Stayzer, Senior Vice President & Chief Member Experience Officer of Meridian Credit Union, described how they knew the community centre was a good fit.
“Meridian works together with our local communities towards shared goals and a vision of the future,” said Mr. Stayzer. “Our investment in this multi-purpose lifestyle hub will attract 125,000 visitors and residents each year to the Pelham and Niagara area, making it a vibrant, attractive place to live, work and play for generations to come.”
“We are so grateful to Meridian Credit Union and all its members for demonstrating this incredible support,” said Mayor Dave Augustyn. “Over the years, John Wink and his staff at our local Meridian branch have been generous partners in so many different community initiatives. Yet, today’s announcement stands unparalleled in our Town’s history. On behalf of all our citizens, we thank Meridian for your amazing investment in Pelham and all of Niagara.”
As part of the acknowledgement of this generous gift, Pelham Town Council will designate the street immediately north of the community centre as “Meridian Way.”
The capital fundraising campaign for the Meridian Community Centre, which will officially open in the summer of 2018, will continue until all major spaces have been named. This aspect of the campaign should be completed this spring, given this most incredible gift from Meridian Credit Union. Following the capital fundraising campaign, the community fundraising phase will get under way.
It is the goal of the community fundraising phase that every volunteer, resident, and business owner will have an opportunity to contribute to this once-in-a-lifetime project by pledging his or her support to the Meridian Community Centre. Updates and details are available at www.ourmcc.ca.
