Low risk case of COVID-19 identified at Meridian Community Centre
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
December 3, 2020
Pelham, ON – The Town of Pelham was made aware on December 1, 2020, of a positive COVID-19 result from a user who was in the Meridian Community Centre on November 24, 2020. The individual tested positive on November 30, 2020. The Town is sharing this information with the community in the interest of health and safety.
The individual testing positive used the arena facilities and followed proper safety protocols while in the building, including wearing a mask in all indoor areas, providing contact information for tracing purposes, and staying in the building for their allotted time only.
As a result of this case, Niagara Public Health completed an inspection of the facility on December 2, 2020, and commended the Town of Pelham for their health and safety protocols and procedures. Public Health has deemed the situation a low risk for exposure or transmission, requiring no further action by the Town. Niagara Public Health has not indicated to the Town of Pelham of any other potential exposures to staff or visitors.
“We hope cases of COVID-19 are seen sparingly in our community, but the reality of the pandemic is that will not always be the case,” said David Cribbs, CAO of the Town of Pelham. “We have followed all health protocols and are pleased to report that our systems are working exactly as they are intended. Our commitment to health and safety inside our buildings ensured this remained a very low-risk case.”
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the Town of Pelham acted quickly and on the best advice from health experts, enhancing cleaning procedures at all facilities, developing new health and safety protocols, and actively screening all entrants to facilities. Additionally, the Town is not accepting rentals of arenas or facilities from users outside the Region.
The Town of Pelham’s award-winning Framework for Reopening guides facilities such as the Meridian Community Centre in procedures for screening, cleaning, and adherence to local and provincial regulations.
