Flags lowered to half-mast in observance of National Day of Mourning April 28, 2022

Flags fly at half mast at pelham town hall

In observance of the National Day of Mourning, the flags at the Town of Pelham municipal building have been lowered to half-mast.

Residents are encouraged to take time today on April 28, to pause, reflect, and remember those who lost their lives or suffered an injury or illness due to their workplace and to renew the commitment to creating safer workplaces.

The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, reported that in 2019 there were 925 workplace fatalities recorded and among those deaths were 29 workers aged 15-24. To help commemorate the day with a moment of silence, The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety (CCOHS) has released the following video.

The National Day of Mourning has been recognized since April 28, 1991; and the Council of the Town of Pelham has proclaimed April 28, 2022 as National Day of Mourning in the Town of Pelham. The National Day of Mourning is observed worldwide and has since spread to about 100 countries around the world.
