The Pelham Station 3 Shorthills Fire and Rescue receive top honours from the Pelham Beautification Committee for the February Thank You Card initiative.

The Station 3 volunteer firefighters continued their community tradition of creating an outdoor skating rink, in a field adjacent to the fire station, for residents and visitors to use at leisure. The ice rink is a popular winter skating destination and is a great example of fostering civic pride through community involvement.

Pictured above are volunteer firefighters William Nuun (at goal), while Greg Haegns (with shovel) and retired Captain Jack Junkin look on in the background.  The ice rink is equipped with floodlights for night time skating enjoyment.  Although, this winter’s weather has not been conducive to ideal ice conditions, the volunteer fire fighters diligently clear the snow, add water when needed and tend to the ice surface in preparation for the colder days because they know when the temperature dips below zero the skaters will come!
