Dig in for the Pelham’s community tree plant

Pelham, ON – A community that plants together grows together, and that’s precisely what the Town of Pelham is encouraging residents to experience during the annual community tree plant on Friday, May 31, 2019, from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. at Harold Black Park.

Now in its third year, the community tree plant offers the opportunity to get back to nature and plant a tree that can be enjoyed for generations.

“The kids, especially, love planting a tree during this event,” said Jodi Hendriks, culture and community enhancement coordinator. “You’ll often hear them talk about how they’re going to come back year after year to check on their tree to see how much it has grown. Even at an early age we see the investment in our community, and that’s what why we host these types of events.”

Twelve trees – consisting of Ironwood, Tulip, Butternut, Katsura, and Sugar Maple – will be planted on May 31, ranging from 6 ft to 12 ft in height.

All ages are invited to participate. The Town supplies the trees, forestry specialists, and mulch. Participants are asked to bring a shovel, gardening gloves, and their enthusiasm.

The community tree plant takes place rain or shine and participants are encouraged to dress in the appropriate outdoor clothing, wear sturdy shoes (steel toe if possible), a hat, sunscreen, and insect repellent.
