Council meetings to be live-streamed as of Feb. 3, 2020

youtube live streaming text

The Town of Pelham’s Council, Committee of the Whole, and Policy and Priorities Committee meetings will be live-streamed beginning Monday, February 3, 2020.

Previously, Council and Committee videos were uploaded to the Town’s YouTube channel, usually within 48-hours of the meeting. Switching to a live-stream option allows viewers the ability to tune in as a meeting occurs, and reduces the wait time before the recording is posted to the YouTube channel.

The new system in Council Chambers was installed just before the New Year, with small modifications and testing occurring during January. Cameras in Council Chambers now capture all members of Council and senior leadership. The cameras live-switch to the active speaker when the speaker’s microphone is activated. There are two fixed cameras; one with a focus on the podium and the other being a bird’s eye camera at the back of the room with a wider capturing lens.

Previously, Council Chambers relied on the use of one camera and a less reliable audio system, which excluded the full range of the horseshoe, often omitting Councilors as they spoke, with volume levels posing a challenge.

The new cameras record in high definition and can be linked to the new LED screens mounted on the walls.

To view the live-stream, visit and subscribe to the Town of Pelham’s YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/townofpelham.

Links to the meeting will be posted to the Town’s Twitter feed (www.twitter.com/townofpelham) and Facebook page (www.facebook.com/townofpelhamontario) the day of.
