Pelham, ON– On Monday, August 27, at 1 p.m. Mayor Dave Augustyn and Member of Parliament for Niagara Centre, Vance Badawey will celebrate upgrades made to the Pelham public pool at Marlene Stewart Streit Park.
A contribution of $69,600 through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, delivered by the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario, supported repairs and enhancements to extend the life of the pool, improved safety, and increased accessibility, including:
- repairs to the pool bowl including the repainting of lines and lanes;
- installment of an accessible entry lift;
- replacement of pool deck, viewing deck materials, and 75 per cent of the concrete pad; and,
- waterproofing mechanical membranes.
“The improvements made to our public pool allow for a safe and inclusive experience for its users,” said Mayor Dave Augustyn. “The investment by the federal government in our community allows us to be one of Niagara’s most vibrant, innovative, and caring communities, and for that we are very appreciative.”
Vance Badawey, Member of Parliament for Niagara Centre, shared appreciation for the local investment, highlighting how the upgrades have enhanced the beloved community space.
“I am pleased to celebrate the re-opening of the Marlene Stewart Streit Park pool,” said MP Badawey. “This project, supported through the Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program, will allow community members in Pelham, and their families to enjoy recreation, leisure, and healthy communities. The Marlene Stewart Streit Park pool serves as a community hub, which everyone can enjoy for years to come.”
The pool, home to the Pelham Penguins swim team, aqua Zumba classes, public and private swimming lessons, and family swims, is open from early June to the end of August.
